The words from Isaiah 9:2 continue to ring true, “the people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.”
Into the darkness of political oppression, economic disparity, cultural brokenness, and spiritual darkness, God is born as a baby into a family without influence. Jesus is born into relative poverty, laid in a food trough for animals, lowly, and under resourced. His family would later flee to another country to protect their young son from the king’s rage.
It could easily be said that we too are living in a period of deep darkness; culturally, economically, politically, and spiritually.
